Series 60 was the first car to sport ‘fins’, a phenomenon that would reach its greatest exuberance in the 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The design of the Series 60 was conceived in a barn - the GM design team, headed by Harley Earl and Frank Hershey, had been forced to decamp there because of strike action at the factory. On its release, the car was an instant hit with the buying public and the inherent message in the marketing of the car was ‘he who owns one is no ordinary man.’
