The Imperial 80 was Chrysler’s entry into the luxury market occupied by makes such as Packard and Cadillac. Its ‘80’ designation indicated a guaranteed top speed of 80mph (130km/h), though a test car actually achieved 96mph (153km/h). The company was also one of the first to adopt four-wheel hydraulic braking and fitting a reversing light. Only a handful of these cars are known to survive worldwide and this car has been in the Nelson area since new.
