The 1968 model Corvette was a radical departure from previous designs, being more aerodynamic, lower and slightly wider. It was a toned down version of the Mako Shark inspired prototype originally conceived for introduction in 1967.
Chevrolet had dropped the name Sting Ray in 1968, but re instated it in 1969 as Stingray. The door opening mechanism differed slightly on the two models and the Stingray script appeared on the side fender of the 1969 model.
