Beginning with their first car in 1908, the Hupp Brothers philosophy was to build cars in the working man's price range, which pitched them against the ever strengthening Ford empire. The main difference with their cars was the use of sliding gear transmission, rather than the planetary gears of cars such as the Model T.  Model R used a four cylinder 16.5hp engine and production ran from 1917 to 1925.
