Mercedes 14/30 1912

Designed by Wilhelm Maybach,  this model has conventional poppet valves, although four of the 18 models Mercedes listed at the time had the sleeve  valve engines that the company had purchased the licence for in 1909. Like many early cars, the gear change lever operates through a gate which is mounted outside the body to the right of the driver.

The three pointed star became the makers emblem in 1911 and remained so until enclosed in the familiar ring in 1923.
