National WOW MuseumDaily: 10am - 5pm
For over 30 years, the World of WearableArt Awards Show has amazed audiences with its magic and ingenuity. What began as a small but wildly wonderful design competition has become a theatrical spectacle and a magnet for talent from around the world. Each year garments from the World of WearableArt Competition and Awards Show return to WOW’s Headquarters in Nelson, direct from the stage, and are showcased at the World of WearableArt & Classic Car Museum.
The 2018 World of WearableArt Exhibition features more than 60 stunning creations from designers from around the world. This up close experience enables you to truly appreciate the skill and craftmanship that goes into creating these stunning works of wearable art.
At the heart of World of WearableArt is the Competition that attracts international attention from designers from over 40 countries each year. The Competition is open to anyone, as long as they can meet the challenge to create a piece of wearable art that is original, innovative and truly exceptional. The exhibition displays the garments to reflect the 2018 Competition sections, the worlds in which these garments are bought to life on stage at the show. Every year three worlds remain constant, Avant-garde, Open and Aotearoa, while three new worlds are introduced for the 2018 Competition; Under the Microscope, Reflective Surfaces, and Bizarre Bra; a returning favourite of WOW Fans.
The 2018 World of WearableArt Exhibition features many of the award-winning garments from the 2018 WOW Awards Show, including the winner of the 2018 Supreme WOW Award, WAR sTOrY by Christchurch sisters Tatyanna Meharry and Natasha English, which must be seen up close to truly appreciate the concept behind this extraordinary wearable art.
